The games bar will be transformed into the ‘first purpose built venue and superclub’ in the town according to owners

A Stockport venue that opened just two years ago has closed its doors. Launched in December 2022, Glitch on Princes Street in the town centre was a games bar boasting both retro arcade games and the latest consoles.

The nostalgia-fuelled concept was brought to life by Amy Fletcher and her partner Joseph Patten.

Hospitality professional Joseph is also the owner of Stockport venues, The Cracked Actor and The Banshee (formerly The Glass Spider), and was also behind live music bar Dr Feelgood.

But fans of the spot needn’t worry, as owners will be reopening the site under a new guise. Opening this weekend and named ‘Holy Diver’, Patten says it will be the ‘first purpose built venue and superclub’ in Stockport.

Speaking about the new concept, Joseph Patten said:

“It’s taken over eight months to build and everything has been done by a very small team and family members to create the most immersive night out possible.

“We have loads of big bands booked for next year and we are also looking to work with promoters and booking agent. It’s great to bring a club scene back to Stockport for all ages from metallic fans to blink 182 fans.

“It’s for people who loved the Doctor Feelgood concept. Imagine that but on steroids and way more alternative. We also have a plan to bring through as many new local bands as possible to give them a leg up and regular gigs – so get in touch.”

The two-storey building will be serve as both a superclub and a ‘rock ‘n’ roll music venue when it opens to the public this weekend.

Boasting live music, it will feature a number of bands and tribute acts every weekend, with free entry for events, except for touring bands.

Already on the books, Holy Diver will be hosting Sex Pistols and Blondie tribute acts this weekend – plus more live acts booked for the rest of December. It will operate as a club night every Friday and Saturday and will be hosting events and student nights on Thursdays.

It will operate over two floors of music with its own

“heaven is a half pipe” room upstairs as well as a second bar. The team have allocated space for retro gaming up there and the floor can also be hired out.

Holy Diver opens this weekend on Princes Street in Stockport town centre. It will be open Thursday to Sunday and on Friday and Saturday until 2 am.
