Two Stockport bars temporarily close after positive coronavirus test

Two bars in Stockport have temporarily closed after both reported that a customer had tested positive for Covid-19.

Rocksalt Cafe Bar and The Moortop Pub and Kitchen, in Heaton Moor, both closed their doors on Sunday (August 9).

The two businesses are situated a few doors apart from each other on Heaton Moor Road.

Bosses at both bars say they have informed Public Health England about the case.

Both bars stated that a customer who visited their premises on Saturday has since tested positive for coronavirus.

As a result both closed their doors immediately to protect staff and customers.

Staff at the two bars have been sent to be tested for the virus.

Customers are expected to be contacted if they were thought to have been in close contact with the infected customer.

A statement on the Rocksalt Cafe Bar Facebook page reads: “Dear all we have had a customer in yesterday sat outside who we have found out has been tested positive for Covid 19 this morning. We have closed our doors immediately.

“All customers on the surrounding tables have been contacted and informed through our track and trace system. All staff on duty yesterday have been for a Covid 19 test and we are waiting the results within the next 24hrs.

“Public Health England have been informed and said unless we are contacted by track and trace to do nothing. We have closed for the safety of our staff and customers until we have our results back. Thank you and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

The Moortop Pub and Kitchen wrote on Facebook: “We have just been made aware that a customer who was in our establishment yesterday has tested positive for COVID-19.

“We are closing our doors immediately to protect our staff and customers alike. All our staff have been sent for a covid test and we await the results before we consider re-opening.

“We are following guidelines and have informed the council and public health England and we will be in touch with anyone who was in close contact.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and we will keep you all posted.”

The M.E.N has contacted both businesses for comment.
