Stockport Christmas Events 2021: Top 10 markets, fairs and festivals

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s clear that Stockport’s festive cheer is here.

There are plenty of events across the borough this December — from fairs, to markets, and even the opportunity to meet the big man himself.

As there are so many festive events to choose from, we’ve provided a round-up of the best ones in Stockport this year.

If you do go to an event, remember that Covid rules have recently changed — so you might need to wear a mask when you previously didn’t have to put one on.

Giant Interactive Post Box and Naughty & Nice List – until December 22

Merseyway Centre

Reaching 6 metres in height — bigger than a double decker bus — the Giant Post Box will be open until December 22.

Each child who posts their letter to Father Christmas will have a magical, interactive experience as they watch their letter be transported to the North Pole. They can then take a card and return to the centre on the dedicated day to check if they’ve made Father Christmas’s naughty or nice list, which will be broadcast from the North Pole onto the giant screen every Saturday from November 27– December 23.

Enchanting Light Shows – various

Merseyway Centre

The series of mini light shows will take place every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening on the run-up to Christmas. Each show will take place at 4.30pm on:

  • 2, 3 & 4 December 2021

  • 9, 10 & 11 December 2021

  • 16, 17 & 18 December 2021

  • Thursday 23 December 2021

Giving Tree – until December 14

Merseyway Centre

Located in the undercover mall outside Specsavers, shoppers will be able to choose a tag from the Giving Tree and purchase a gift for a less fortunate child.

Each tag is bespoke to each child with their age and the things they like, meaning they will receive something they have asked for on their Christmas list.

All participants can drop their gift donations at the dedicated donation station in the same location or at the Merseyway management suite.

Town Hall

The town hall will host a festive market place, with a range of stalls showcasing the local area’s fine food, gifts, and crafts. Get down early to avoid disappointment.
