Popular Stockport bar closes for night after ‘machete’ seen in car park brawl

The team at a long-established Stockport bar decided to keep its doors closed on Saturday night after a ‘saddening’ brawl in the car park.

Bamboo Club, in Hazel Grove, remained shut last night following the ‘shocking’ incident after 3am on Saturday morning (September 4).

Police were called out to the bar, off London Road, after its closing time when a machete was reported to have been seen during a fight outside.

Hours after the incident, the team at Bamboo Club announced it would not be opening on Saturday night for the safety of its customers.

A post on the bar’s Facebook page said: “Due to an incident that unfolded on the public car park last night after we had closed and the severity of the incident, with the safety of our customers and staff being our utmost priority we have taken the decision to not open our venue tonight.

“We are saddened and shocked by the actions of a small few who have ultimately forced our hands into making this decision.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused for our regular customers. We hope to have more information soon.”

Greater Manchester Police says that no casualties were reported following the brawl at the bar, which has stood at the site since 1961.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray, the force said.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 3.20am on Saturday (September 4) to a report of people fighting outside a club on London Road, Stockport.

“No casualties were reported. A machete is reported to have been seen.

“Police attended and some of the group dispersed. A 24-year-old man was taken to custody on suspicion of affray.”
