Fans of BBC show warned it’s about to ‘disappear forever’

Fans of the BBC One sitcom Scarborough been warned that the show is about to ‘disappear forever.’

Scarborough, set in the North Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough, starred Salford comic Jason Manford as Mike and former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley as Karen, a couple in their late 30s giving their romance another go after a break of five years.

The show, which was filmed on location in Stockport and in Manchester studios as well as in Scarborough in April last year, was not commissioned for a second series after it was aired in September.

Writer and director Derren Litten, who also wrote the award-winning ITV series Benidorm which ended in 2018, has now urged fans to see it while they still can.

He says it’s only going to be showing on the BBC iPlayer streaming service for a limited time and it won’t be released for download or on DVD.

“I wrote and directed a lovely show called #Scarborough – it’s only on @BBCiPlayer for a few more weeks and with no download/DVD release this will probably be your last chance to see it before it disappears forever,” he tweeted.

His message was shared by Walkden star Cath, and viewers rushed to voice their disappointment.

“I was gutted that it wasn’t going to get a second series and now its getting taken away from me completely,” tweeted one.

“Absolute shame you didn’t get to do the second series Derren, it was brilliant!” said another.

“No this can’t be !!! The @BBCOne needs to show Scarborough again if we can’t get to the seaside let the seaside come to us,” protested another fan.

And another told him: “It’s such a lovely show and I just do not understand why it didn’t get a second series.

“Anyway, I’ll enjoy it while I can xx”

The Underbank area of Stockport stood in for the seaside town in the show in scenes featuring the hair salon Geraldine’s.

“God I can’t wait for you guys to see it! You’ll howl with laughter and keep your heart full to the brim – it’s BRILLIANT,” said Catherine as she worked on the series.
